That's quite a commitment to the belief that the u. So if the sentra is the second car they've owned in their lifetime, it might be a step up in size. Nissan believes that these folks virtually live in their cars, so in designing the new sentra, they've tried to create a 'mobile backpack.' the cabin is more spacious, and is finished like a more expensive car, with wonderfully supportive seats in either cloth or rich leather. One thing the sentra doesn't have, surprisingly, is a fifth door: no hatchback model, only the sedan. But at least the 60/40 rear seats fold flat, opening up the trunk space, creating a large flat cargo area, or a cozy space for two echo boomers to sleep. there's an all-new aluminum 2. 0-liter engine, more powerful and fuel efficient than before, to go with the new chassis and body. It's mated to either a wonderful six-speed gearbox, or an optional new cvt, continuously variable transmission. Cruise control is unavailable. Anti-lock brakes are optional 250). the 2. 0s adds 16-inch steel wheels, six-way manual driver's seat, power mirrors, remote entry, a six-speaker sound system, illuminated steering wheel audio controls, and vehicle information display. Abs is still optional, and at least cruise control is available. the 2. 0sl adds leather interior, 16-inch alloy wheels, abs with brake force distribution, keyless ignition, cruise control, and bluetooth hands-free phone technology. for all models, foglamps 270) and rear deck lid 210) are optional. A clever original feature called the divide-n-hide trunk (a secret space behind the rear seats) is optional with the 2. 0s and 2. 0sl, as is satellite radio wiring. safety equipment is extensive on all models, including dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags, full length curtain airbags, active front seat headrests, and a tire pressure monitoring system. It seems odd that anti-lock brakes aren't standard, and electronic stability control isn't available. walkaroundnissan has brought the sentra more into the family, with styling from a clean sheet of paper. It looks like a scaled-down maxima now, with all the right curves, lines, and sculpted shapes. From every angle, it looks like a new nissan, with its crisp character lines. This means better balance on the road. And the latest chassis are safer, with crush zones built into less space. There's an upcoming funny commercial featuring a rumpled echo boomer who makes a documentary of himself living 24/7 in his sentra. One thing, for example, is a locking glovebox deep enough to hold a laptop computer. There's also an integrated removable cd holder on the headliner above the driver's sun visor; cupholders that are adjustable for 20-ounce bottles, 32-ounce mega cups, or cellphones and dvds; and pockets with see-through netting on the backs of the front seats for passengers' cellphones and ipods. with 97. 4 cubic feet of cabin space, the '07 sentra has more room than the mazda3, honda civic, toyota corolla, and chevy cobalt, in that order. In trunk volume, the cobalt makes up for it, with 13. 9 cubic feet, compared to the sentra's 13. 1; but the sentra has something simple but clever, in its optional (2. 0s and 2. 0sl) 'divide-n-hide' trunk. The trunk is so deep that it can accept a false folding back, creating a secret space about 20 inches wide, just behind the rear seat. we spent time in both a bare-bones sentra 2. 0 with cloth seats, and the fully equipped 2. 0sl with leather. When there's no one back there, the 60/40 split rear seat drops flat, to open up the space into the trunk. There's no problem fitting a bicycle (or maybe two) back there, through the trunk; two friendly echo boomers could even sleep back there. but the new instrument panel might be the nicest aspect of the interior. Again, very stylish, and functional too. The instruments are sharp, the controls easy to operate, and the center stack features a strong-looking shift lever rising out at a 45-degree angle. It makes 140 horsepower (same as the '06 honda civic, 14 hp more than the toyota corolla and 10 hp less than the mazda3), but it's been designed to produce strong torque; with 147 pound-feet, it beats those others. The flow of traffic in northern california was more than 80 mph, and the sentra ran 90 with ease. This is the third generation of that transmission, and the technology improves in leaps. The main benefit with a cvt is less internal friction, for better gas mileage. With only two ranges, high and low, it's smoother because there's less shifting, although the sound is odd, like the car is winding up. The 2007 nissan altima has a manual mode for the cvt transmission, turning it into a six-speed; but the sentra, alas, does not. the suspension is a new independent configuration in front, with a torsion beam in the rear, a compact design with separate shocks and coil springs that allows more room for the trunk that's above it. It's firm in a quality kind of way, yet never harsh or uncomfortable. It feels rugged and inspires confidence, out there in the cruel world of potholes. the brakes feel even better. Vented 11-inch discs in front and drums in rear. It's unfortunate that abs isn't standard except in the 2. 0 sl, especially considering all the other standard safety equipment; but at least the option is only $250. It's speed-sensitive, which means the feel is lighter when parking and heavier out on the freeway, as it should be. summarythe word that applies to every aspect of the all-new 2007 sentra is solid. Nissan has nailed this one, from a design standpoint. It's got a new engine, chassis, styling and interior, all of which are excellent and will keep the sentra near the top of its competitive class of well-built cars. The truly small cars are subcompacts: nissan versa, toyota yaris, and honda fit. The sentra is larger and roomier than those cars and competes with compacts such as the toyota corolla and honda civic. As a result, the cabin is spacious and it's finished like a more expensive car, with wonderfully supportive seats in cloth or leather. The 60/40 split rear seat folds flat, opening up the trunk space and creating a large flat cargo area. These se-r models have suspension modifications for sharper handling. The se-r models have more power and better handling, but they're easy to live with and offer all the advantages of the standard sentra. For 2009, se-r models have a new premium audio package and two new exterior colors. sentra 2. 0 models come with an aluminum 2. 0-liter engine and a choice of a wonderful six-speed manual gearbox or a cvt continuously variable automatic transmission. These cars are good values. They're roomy inside, the engine is modern and competitive, and the chassis provides good handling and a comfortable ride. Like many new vehicles in the compact sedan segment, the latest sentra is lighter and more fuel-efficient than ever before, thanks in part to a smaller engine and a new platform that manages to offer even more interior space. styling cues on the new sentra are shared with the nissan altima midsize sedan, also new for 2013. They include led accents around the headlights and led taillights. The understated but sophisticated design makes the sentra one of the best looking compact sedans, which makes it a standout in a class whose best-sellers are about as compelling as a toaster. All variants also get a new continuously variable transmission (cvt), with a 6-speed manual available on the base s model only. All versions allow drivers to choose from three drive modes: eco, normal and sport, which change the sentra from thrifty to peppy. to counter the reduction in power, nissan managed to strip more than 100 pounds from the newest sentra. Engineers made it lower and narrower to improve aerodynamics, which also help contribute to better fuel economy. Another fuel-saving trick is the sentra's new smart alternator, which decouples from the engine and battery during acceleration to minimize power loss (a traditional alternator typically sucks engine power under acceleration to feed the battery). the result of these updates is an epa fuel economy rating of 30/39 mpg city/highway with the cvt, a laudable improvement from the last generation's 27/34 mpg with the old cvt. While the cvt plays a big role in fuel savings, even sentras equipped with the manual transmission are up to 27/36 mpg, compared to 24/31 mpg previously. Options include the navigation and premium packages, plus a leather package 1,030), which includes leather upholstery, heated front seats and rear disc brakes. safety equipment on all models include includes dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags, roof-mounted side curtain airbags, antilock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), vehicle dynamic control (vdc) and traction control. walkaroundnissan sentra is larger than the subcompact versa and smaller than the midsize altima. The 2013 sentra is 2. 3 inches longer than the outgoing model and 0. 6 inches lower, which makes the sentra look roomy from the outside, even though it's 1. 2 inches narrower. The new design has decreased drag to help with the improved fuel economy. certain styling cues are shared with the handsome, all-new midsize altima. The front grille, with its angular corners, inwardly curved sides and horizontal grille lines, convey the family resemblance. Led accent lights around the headlamps add a contemporary and sophisticated touch. Headlights wrap around slightly without looking too extreme. from the side, the altima looks clean, with a high belt line, curvaceous nose and softly angled rear. A bold, high character line gently sweeps around the front fender, then continues straight across into the rear led wraparound tail lamps. Standard 16-inch wheels are steel with covers; we prefer the 17-inch alloys on the sl. The 17-inch sport alloys on the sr, on the other hand, look overdone and resemble mutant arachnids. in the rear, led tail lights echo the angular shapes found elsewhere on the sentra. A deep cutline around the hood makes the rear bumper prominent, even bulbous. Sentras fitted with the optional fe package have a rear decklid spoiler, which is sporty but understated. interiorinside, the sentra continues its clean, sophisticated styling. The instrument cluster is large, clear, and easy to read, with an attractive white-on-black color scheme. The steering wheel is comfortable in hand, although its myriad buttons on sv models and above can feel oddly placed and take some getting used to. on the center stack, climate control buttons and knobs are intuitive. Standard audio controls are simple. The optional 4. 3-inch display on the driver package is large and easy to read, but without navigation or a backup camera, all that screen space seems wasted. The top-end sl model gets features found normally on larger, more expensive cars, like dual-zone automatic climate control and wood trim. We question whether they will be durable long-term. To avoid the fabric armrests, one must choose the sl and upgrade to the leather package. The optional leather upholstery is nice but nothing special, and it does bump up the price. space in the sentra is perhaps one of its most compelling attributes. Front legroom is a roomy 42. 5 inches, which is enough to accommodate tall drivers, but still can accommodate petite people without them feeling swallowed up. Rogue's exterior is designed to present an image of modern sophistication. Its dramatic styling includes dynamically arched forms and powerful rear shoulder lines. The extensive redesign for 2011 adds to its sporty feel, while enhancing its upscale appearance. interior changes for 2011 include a new instrument panel design and a new center cluster. Leather-appointed seating surfaces are available along with a six-way power driver's seat and a 60/40 split folding rear bench seat. We found the cabin pleasant, with materials that would look good in higher-priced vehicles. In addition to the navigation system and rearview monitor, the rogue is available with nissan intelligent key, bluetooth, xm satellite radio and a powerful bose-developed audio system with seven speakers with woofer, aux input and mp3 playback. The controls are easy to use and understand. the rogue seats five. There is no third row available for seven-passenger seating. The nissan rogue is a compact suv. Based on a car platform, it's considered a crossover vehicle, like the honda cr-v, hyundai tucson, and chevy equinox. Utility is enhanced by numerous convenient storage and ultra-functionality features, including an oversized glove compartment, a large center console and a washable, removable tray that fits below the cargo area floor to hold wet or dirty gear and tools. The rogue is meant as a daily commuter and weekend runabout, not an off-road adventure vehicle. We think it's one of the better handling small suvs, though we would not call it sporty. The ride allows for a lot of road feel and can become harsh on rough and irregular surfaces. Road imperfections and engine sounds intrude into the cabin. the rogue was introduced as a 2008 model, and changes since then have been minimal.
